Shawwal 1, 1426 AH: Oppression on Ahlul-bayt [a]
All praise belongs to the Almighty [swt], the Master of the Universe.
Oppression on the family of Prophet Muhammad [s] continues to this day as Muslims mark the tragic occasion of the desecration of graves of Ma’sumeen [a] in Jannatul Baqi, Madina. It was on the eight day of Shawwal 1345 AH corresponding to April 21 1925, that the house of Saud demolished the shrines of Sayyida Fatima Zahra [a], Imam Sajjad [a], Imam Muhammad al-Baqir [a], and Imam Jaffar as-Sadiq [a].
"... and whoever respects the signs of Allah, verily it is (the reflection) of the piety of their hearts" (22:32) In this ayah from Surah al-Hajj, the Holy Qur’an declares that respect for the symbols of the Almighty [s] is a sign of Imaan. Indeed wahabbiism, and its crooked roots, showed its true colours of hypocrisy by utter disrespect for the sanctity of Jannatul Baqi and Jannat al-Mualla (in Makkah). In fact, the shrine of the Holy Prophet [s] was also slated for demolition by the Saudi Regime.
The following ahadith provide insight into the blessings and merits or visiting the shines of the Infallibles [a]. The Holy Prophet [s] has said: He who visits my grave, my intersession becomes incumbent for him. There is no Muslim that greets me but that Allah delivers it to my soul so that I may return the greetings to him. He who visits me after my death is like the one who has visited me in my lifetime. 1925 was not the first time that enemies of the Ahlul-bayt [a] disrespected their holy shrines. For instance, the Abbasid Caliphs [l] attempted such heinous plots on numerous occasions. Indeed, the Baqi desecration illustrates that not only were Ahlul-bayt [a] oppressed during their life; rather they are also subject to oppression after death.
This utter disregard for the sanctity of religious and historic sites continues to this day in Saudi Arabia. Recently, the house where the Holy Prophet [s] was born in Makkah was targeted. Likewise, sites with historic significance, such as Khandaq, are being demolished or altered. It is a shame that the majority of the ummah remains silent while the forces of evil continue to systematically abolish Islamic history. Register your protest today by writing to the Saudi Embassy and the local media.
In conclusion, we call upon Imam al-Hujjah [a] and pray for his safety in these trying times. History records that Imam ‘Ali bin Abi Talib [a] resorted to the sword when suggestions were made of exhuming the body of Sayyida Fatima Zahra [s] after her burial. No doubt that our present Imam [a] has similar sentiments about the current situation in Baqi. Muslim Youths are therefore enjoined to pray for the reappearance of Imam al-Hujjah [a] and to boldly speak out against oppression.
