Sha’baan 15, 1426 AH: Mission of Imam
All praise belongs to the Almighty [swt], the Master of the Universe.
“You are (but) a warner, and for every nation there is a guide” [Ra’d : 7]
The Month of Sha’baan has indeed revived the spirit of Muslims as we prepare for the upcoming Holy Month of Ramadhan. For the lovers of the Ahlul-bayt [a], Sha’baan brings extra blessings with the birth anniversaries of Imam Husayn [a], Hazrat Abbas [a], Imam Sajjad [a], and Imam al-Mahdi [a].
Asbagh Ibn Nabaatah narrates that he heard Imam Hassan [a] say, “The Imams after the Messenger of God are twelve, of which nine are from the offspring of my brother Husayn and from them is the Mahdi of this nation.” Kefaayah al-Asr pg. 233 Ch. 30, Behar al-Anwaar vol. 36 p. 383
Rasulullah [s] said regarding Imam Husayn [a]: “This son of mine is an Imam, the son of an Imam, the brother of an Imam and the father of Imams. Their ninth is their Qaem who will fill the earth with justice and equality as it would be filled with injustice and oppression.” Al-Nukat al-Eteqaadiyyah pg. 35
The births of Imam Husayn [a] and Imam-e-Zamana [a] in Sha’baan illustrate the inseparable connection between Kerbala and the mission of the Mahdi [a]. This was no more evident than the past 15th Sha’baan 1426, when over 6 million pilgrims gathered in Kerbala for the Ziyarat of Imam Husayn [a]. Defying all odds and warnings, and putting their life on the line, the devout flocked to Kerbala in numbers greater than the annual Hajj.
Such enthusiasm, despite the lingering dangers, shows the world that the bond between the Imam [a] and his followers is an inseparable one. Any why not? Indeed Imam Husayn [a] is unique in many respects, one of which is that there are no occasions of joy in the month in which Imam Husayn [a] was martyred, i.e. Muharram. Likewise, there are no occasions of grief in the month in which Imam Husayn [a] was born, i.e. Sha’baan.
Muslim Youths must strive to understand the mission of our Imam [a] and prepare to welcome him, support him, and moreover, follow his commands. As the doors of Mercy open in the upcoming Holy Month of Ramadhan, let us make the reappearance of our Imam [a] the most important dua in our hearts.
